If we teach people to automatically question every piece of information they read, in other words to become information and media literate we can help create a society which believes nothing unless it is properly evidenced, balanced and stated in a reasoned way. We can do this by giving people the tools of information and media literacy early in their educational career. In so doing we will enable people to build their own psychological immune system or \'cognitive firewall\' and begin to make them immune to the viruses of post-truth and alternative facts.
